The origin and inspiration for Sea Otter Europe lies in the Sea Otter Classic, one of the largest cycling festivals in the world, which has been held every year since 1991 in Laguna Seca (California) and has never stopped growing and developing.
"You should organise a mountain bike race". This simple statement from the owner of a bike shop in Monterey in 1990 was the origin of the Sea Otter Classic. Co-founders Frank Yohannan and Lou Rudolph organised the first Laguna Seca Challenge on 6 and 7 April 1991. A total of 350 athletes and 150 spectators took part. In 1993, the event was renamed the Sea Otter Classic and is now part of the Life Time Corporation. The Life Time Sea Otter Classic has over 9,000 athletes and 74,000 fans and is widely recognised as the most important cycling event in the world. Sea Otter Europe is the cycling festival in Europe that you should not miss! It will take place from 20 to 22 September 2024 in the beautiful capital city of Girona.
In the few years since its inception, the festival has achieved impressive numbers: last year, 64,160 visitors attended, over 5,000 athletes took part in the various competitions and more than 400 brands exhibited their products.
This year, a complete sports programme awaits you, offering challenges for both competitors and amateurs. The exhibition area presents the best brands on the market, and you can test bikes and have fun on the demo race tracks. There are also special activities planned exclusively for professionals in the sector.
All of this takes place in the stunning province of Girona on the Costa Brava, known for its good weather, excellent gastronomy and first-class natural surroundings.
The festival has quickly become an unmissable event for the cycling community. It is recognised worldwide by cycling enthusiasts and the industry and you shouldn't miss it!
